Young Advisors are Young People aged between 14 and 21, who show community leaders and decision makers how to engage young people in community life, regeneration and renewal. They are highly trained and qualified to work as Regeneration and Renewal Consultants.
Waltham Forest, in north east London set up a Young Advisor team in October 2007. Since then the Young Adviosrs have undertaken many high profile pieces of work, including the Department for Communities and Local Governments REACH project, national "How to engage with Young People" seminars and one of our Young advisors has even met the prime minister!
Waltham Forest Young Advisors team two were trained in September 2009, bringing the team to a total of 18 Young Advisors. The latest YA's will be starting work on a high profile piece of work with the council's planning team, and will be officially launched on the 14th of October 2009.
The Young Advisors are hosted within the community engagement department of Waltham Forest council, but are still a branch of the nation Young Advisors Charity, meaning that essentially there is no bias :).
