It's long been noted that Young People are often stereotyped very unfairly. This is hugely due to their image in the media. Almost without fail, every week there are a few negative stories about Young People. But there are very rarely any positive stories. Why? Mostly because a lot of the time, people are more interested in the negative bits. A morbid fascination with negativity? Perhaps.
This campaign aims to change all of that with an effective double pronged approach. It's well known that there are a lot of Young People who simply are not recognised or rewarded for the good things they do. Most of the time, the focus is on academic or sporting achievements - Young People that don't excel academically, or physically are often left behind, and feel degraded. Our idea is simple: reward Young People, then publicise that reward.
How do we know who to reward? You choose. Young People are nominated for the award, and then the nominations are scrutinised by a judging panel of Young People and council professionals. Successful nominations will make it through to an awards ceremony, where the nominated Young Person will be rewarded. The ceremony, is to take place on September 11th, and will then be publicised through regional media.
The campaign is being spearheaded by the Children's Commissioner, Ann Tennant, and the borough's Young Advisors, who have worked closely to put the campaign together, and launch it. They will be involved in the campaign throughout its course, and will, of course be at the awards ceremony!
